Based on the novel of the same name by Patricia McCormick, SOLD portrays the realities of international child trafficking. After a monsoon washes away her family’s crops, 13-year-old Lakshmi is pressured by her father to help support the family. Thinking she is getting a job as a maid in the city, the young Nepalese girl ends up being trafficked to India to work at a brothel. There she lives in captivity enduring forced prostitution, a harrowing reality for millions of children around the world. Ultimately, Lakshmi risks everything to reclaim her life.
