Anita Hill Doc is the Proto-#MeToo Story
FREIDA LEE MOCK’S FILM IS ESSENTIAL TO CONTEXTUALIZING THE BRETT KAVANAUGH HEARINGS
In 1991, when Anita Hill testified that then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas sexually harassed her, it was a watershed moment. This past year, as the #MeToo movement has gained momentum, we’ve witnessed another cultural sea change, one that’s built on the shoulders of women like Hill who came forward when it was even more taboo to speak up than it is today. Many this year have acknowledged the important role Hill played in changing the narrative around rape culture and have recommended Mock’s documentary as vital to understanding this history. This week, as Christine Blasey Ford prepares to take the stand against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, the documentary is once again being recommended as essential viewing. We’re proud to have supported a film which continues to inform the dialogue around workplace harassment as well as assault allegations made against members of government. We hope these conversations can help to further bring about healing and deep-rooted change.
