Under the Gun

Endless mass shootings haven’t changed the national debate on gun control, this film investigates why

2016 | Running Time: 110 minutes | Rating: R

The Sandy Hook massacre was considered a watershed moment in the national debate on gun violence in the United States, but the death tolls produced from these weapons has only increased. Narrated by executive producer Katie Couric, UNDER THE GUN shines a light on the underlying issues that have kept the debate fierce and progress slow. Through the firsthand accounts of families impacted by mass shootings in Newtown, Aurora, Isla Vista and Tucson, as well as those who experience daily gun violence in Chicago, the documentary unearths why politicians are having difficulty acting and what is being done at the state and local levels. UNDER THE GUN premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Director/Producer/Writer: Stephanie Soechtig; Writer: Mark Monrore; Producers: Olivia Ahnemann, Kristin Lazure, Joshua Kunau; Executive Producers: Katie Couric, Regina K. Scully, Michael Walrath, Michelle Walrath
