A narrative drama spotlighting the struggles of soldiers readjusting to civilian life

2017 | Running Time: 109 minutes | Rating: R

Left with memories and injuries from the battlefield that threaten to destroy them, a group of soldiers returning from Iraq attempt to reintegrate into family and civilian life. Adam (Miles Teller) returns home to his young family in Kansas, including an infant son born while he was overseas, and suffers from survivor’s guilt. Two of his Iraq war buddies living nearby, Solo (Beulah Koale) and Billy Waller (Joe Cole) struggle with memory loss and suicidal urges. Based on journalist David Finkel’s best-selling non-fiction book of the same name, this narrative film creates a powerful depiction of the ways that posttraumatic stress disorder affects soldiers after combat. “You get the irony from the title, but it’s also sincere in its wishes for these young soldiers.”
