When Mike’s San Francisco art studio burns down while on tour in Europe, he must rebuild his life and practice, while emerging with a renewed sense of purpose and destiny. Mike Henderson (born 1943) is a renowned San Francisco-based artist and blues musician known for his expressive, abstract, and figurative paintings exploring social justice, Black identity, and personal history over a 60-year career. Based in the Bay Area since the 1960s, he is a former SFAI professor whose work is held by major museums like SFMOMA and the Crocker Art Museum.
