Franca: Chaos and Creation

A son’s portrait of his mother, fashion editor and visionary Franca Sozzani

2016 | Running Time: 80 minutes | Rating: NR

Director Francesco Carrozzini creates an intimate portrait of his mother, Franca Sozzani, the legendary editor-in-chief of Italian Vogue. From the ridiculous to the sublime, her astonishing but often controversial magazine covers have not only broken the rules, shaking up the status quo and redefining the concept of beauty, but also set the high bar for fashion, art and commerce over the past 25 years. With interviews from Karl Lagerfeld, Bruce Weber, Baz Luhrmann, Courtney Love and many others, Carrozzini gives us a behind the scenes glimpse into his mother’s creative process as well as peek into her vulnerabilities both past and present. The film premiered at the 2016 Venice Film Festival. Director/Producer: Francesco Carrozini; Producers: David Codikow, Steph Sciré; Producer/Executive Producer: Daniele Di Lorenzo; Executive Producers: Allison Beckett, Amy Berg, Mattia Bogianchino, Beatrice Camerana, Geralyn White Dreyfous, Daniele Grammiccia, Regina K. “In taking as its subject this iconic editor, who has until now remained a rather mysterious figure, he shows us a woman—a mom!—whose vision has always been laced with courage and humor.”
