Buster’s Mal Heart

A surreal tale about a man haunted by versions of himself

2016 | Running Time: 96 minutes | Rating: NR

To survive the winter an eccentric mountain man breaks into the empty vacation homes of a remote community. Regularly, he calls into radio talk shows ranting about the impending Inversion at the turn of the millennium — acquiring the nickname “Buster.” In another time and place, Buster (Rami Malek) was once Jonah, a family man whose job as a hotel night-shift concierge took a toll on his psyche and marriage. When Jonah encountered the conspiracy-obsessed drifter (DJ Qualls) his life changed forever. As the solitary Buster drifts around, he gradually pieces together the events that fractured his life. BUSTER MAL’S HEART premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. Director: Sarah Adina Smith; Starring: Rami Malek, DJ Qualls, Kate Lyn Sheil; Producers: Jonako Donley, Travis Stevens; Executive Producers: Dan Cogan, Geralyn White Dreyfous, Wendy Ettinger, Mynette Louie, Julie Parker Benello
