Generation Wealth

Examining consumerism, beauty, and the American Dream

2018 | Running Time: 106 minutes | Rating: R

GENERATION WEALTH, the latest installment in acclaimed photographer’s Lauren Greenfield’s multi-platform project by the same name, compiling the archives of 25 years of photography all eluding to an overarching theme of materialistic, image-obsessed, wealth culture. The film puts the pieces of Greenfield’s life’s work together for an incendiary investigation into the pathologies that have created the richest society the world has ever seen. Spanning consumerism, beauty, gender, body commodification, aging and more, Greenfield creates a comprehensive cautionary tale about a culture heading straight for the cliff’s edge. Simultaneously photographic journey, memoir and historical essay, the film bears witness to the global boom–bust economy, the corrupted American Dream and the human costs of late stage capitalism, narcissism and greed. The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Director/Producer/Writer: Lauren Greenfield; Producers: Wallis Annenberg, Frank Evers; Executive Producers: Geralyn White Dreyfous, Lilly Hartley, Regina K. Scully, Jeffrey Tarrant
