In the Golden Age of Hollywood, actress Hedy Lamarr, an Austrian immigrant from Hitler’s Europe, starred alongside Spencer Tracy, Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable, and was celebrated as “the most beautiful woman in the world,” but Hedy Lamarr was so much more than just a pretty face. In 1941, she patented a secure form of wireless communication called “frequency hopping” (a forerunner to “spread spectrum communications”), paving the way for secure communications over military satellites, GPS devices and Wi-Fi technology, revolutionizing the way we communicate to this day.
