A portrait of Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the country’s first farm workers union with Cesar Chavez. Huerta began community organizing in the 1950s and evolved into one of the most defiant feminists of the 20th century. With unprecedented access to this intensely private mother of 11, the film chronicles Huerta’s life, from her childhood in Stockton, California to her early years with the United Farm Workers to the headline-making grape boycott of 1965 to her role in the women’s movement in the 1970s to her continued work as a fearless activist today, in her late 80s. The film spotlights how farm workers founded the idea of environmental justice and how sexism played into the marginalization of Huerta’s legacy. DOLORES premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Peter Bratt is an award-winning screenwriter and independent filmmaker whose features include FOLLOW ME HOME (1996) and LA MISSION (2009). Bratt is also a San Francisco Film Commissioner and a long time consultant for the Friendship House Association of American Indians, a local non-profit serving the Bay Area’s Native population.
